Confirm the autism documentation pathway
Ohio describes a district-identified autism pathway with a finalized IEP and a private-diagnosis pathway reflected in an IEP or district-developed Autism Education Plan. Children may apply from age three when the other requirements are met.
Your next steps
Work with the district on the required plan
Check that the student's IEP or permitted AEP is current and meets the official pathway requirements. A private diagnosis by itself does not replace the district-plan step described by the department.
Choose an approved Autism Scholarship provider
Follow the application page to participating-provider resources and enroll with the selected provider. Ask how the proposed services address the plan and who is responsible for the child's overall education arrangement.
Complete the application with the provider
Supply the signed family forms and supporting records requested by the provider. Monitor the scholarship decision and parent account information, and agree on services and charges only within the approved scope.

Important distinctions
- A service-only business provider does not necessarily provide the child's full educational program.
- An Autism Scholarship application is separate from a Jon Peterson scholarship application.
