About this guide
An independent guide to Louisiana Giving All True Opportunity to Rise (LA GATOR) Scholarship Program, not an official application or an eligibility decision. Rules, application windows and available funds can change. Confirm your circumstances with the program before changing enrollment or committing money.
Before you start
Check the pathway for your child
Review Louisiana residency, age and the applicable prior-participation, kindergarten, public-school or income pathway. Eligibility alone does not reserve funding: appropriations and the program's priority order affect awards.
Your next steps
Check the application calendar
The 2026-27 family window has closed. Use LDOE's current announcement for the next cycle rather than an old Odyssey application link. Returning participants and previously waitlisted families have different instructions.
Prepare the household and student evidence
Follow the document checklist linked by LDOE for your application pathway. Check names and student records before submission, and keep a record of the completed application and any request for corrections.
Wait for the funding decision before committing
Review the award notice and approved education arrangement. Ask LDOE about enrollment or home-study conflicts before changing programs; eligibility, an award and admission to a particular school are separate decisions.
Preparation checklist
Use this to get organized. The current official application or handbook controls the full requirements.
- Residency and student identity records from the current checklist
- School-history, income or other pathway evidence requested
- Application confirmation and a plan for any unfunded education costs
Submit identity, financial, student and medical records only through the verified official process. Do not upload application documents to ParentSurf or include them in a public review.
Important distinctions
- A waitlist position is not a funded scholarship.
- Do not assume a previous year's application or education arrangement automatically qualifies for the next year.
