Arkansas EFA: parent guide
Prepare an Arkansas EFA application or renewal for each child, using the current family instructions rather than a school or service-provider registration form.

About this guide
An independent guide to Education Freedom Accounts (EFA), not an official application or an eligibility decision. Rules, application windows and available funds can change. Confirm your circumstances with the program before changing enrollment or committing money.
Before you start
Check the current student requirements
Review DESE's EFA guidance for the relevant year and educational setting. Family participation can support private-school or home-school education, but applicants must satisfy the current student rules and submit the required information.
Your next steps
Check whether applications are being processed
DESE distinguishes accepting an application from reviewing or funding it. Its current page warns that some late applications are not being processed. Read that notice before relying on an accessible application button.
Apply or renew for each student
Use the FACTS application route linked by DESE and the current family checklist. Arkansas requires annual application or renewal for each participating student; do not assume last year's award creates this year's application.
Complete participation and spending requirements
If approved, complete the required participation agreement and enrollment steps. Use the current handbook for eligible expenses, testing and payment documentation, and keep school admission separate from the EFA decision.
Preparation checklist
Use this to get organized. The current official application or handbook controls the full requirements.
- Student and guardian details for every child applying
- Current documents requested by the family application
- Your proposed school or home-school arrangement
Submit identity, financial, student and medical records only through the verified official process. Do not upload application documents to ParentSurf or include them in a public review.
Important distinctions
- An application receipt is not confirmation of review, funding or a school place.
- Use the current-year handbook instead of an older downloaded expense list.
Official resources & further reading
State agencies and their program administrators are the source of application requirements. Older editions are labeled; check the program site for newer guidance.
