Mississippi Education Scholarship Account: parent guide
Mississippi's special-needs ESA uses an application and reimbursement process, not a general shopping-marketplace enrollment. Prepare the student evidence and read the award packet before spending.

About this guide
An independent guide to Education Scholarship Account (ESA) Program, not an official application or an eligibility decision. Rules, application windows and available funds can change. Confirm your circumstances with the program before changing enrollment or committing money.
Before you start
Check special-needs and school requirements
Use MDE's current application to check the child's qualifying special-education history and education placement. The FAQ describes eligible-school expenses; it does not establish a general homeschool spending account.
Your next steps
Use the current school-year application
Open the application linked on MDE's ESA page and follow its submission instructions. The older FAQ contains inconsistent delivery wording, so confirm the current form's accepted submission method with MDE if unclear.
Complete the responsibilities agreement
Gather the student and placement evidence requested in the application and sign the parent responsibilities. Keep a copy of the submitted packet and respond to missing-document requests.
Follow the award packet for reimbursement
After an award, use the current reimbursement form, supporting expense records and quarterly dates published by MDE. Current participants do not submit a fresh application every year; follow MDE's continuing-participation instructions.
Preparation checklist
Use this to get organized. The current official application or handbook controls the full requirements.
- Current application and requested special-education evidence
- School placement records and signed parent responsibilities
- Itemized expense records and the current reimbursement calendar
Submit identity, financial, student and medical records only through the verified official process. Do not upload application documents to ParentSurf or include them in a public review.
Important distinctions
- Do not use the older FAQ's annual dollar amount as the current award amount.
- An application is not permission to assume that every purchase will be reimbursed.
Official resources & further reading
State agencies and their program administrators are the source of application requirements. Older editions are labeled; check the program site for newer guidance.
