NHAbout Research Institute for Learning & Development (ResearchILD)
SMARTS@Home is an executive function curriculum for children in grades 1-6 that covers the areas of self-understanding, strategy use, flexible thinking, goal setting, organization, and time management. Each of the six units contains four lessons, filled with fun activities, practical strategies, and “extension” suggestions for further practice. The curriculum is designed to be led by an at-home caring adult, features many options for customization, and was developed by educators and experts in executive function, who also just happen to be parents, grandparents, and homeschoolers themselves. By providing children with executive function strategies, SMARTS@Home supports academic areas like science, mathematics, language, history, health, reading, writing, art, and music and helps prepare children for success in high school, college and career, and beyond. ResearchILD (researchild.org) is a nonprofit educational organization, under the direction of Lynn Meltzer, Ph.D., whose mission is to “transform students’ lives by empowering them to learn HOW to learn and providing executive function resources for schools and families.
