About Jennifer Hawkes
I'm Jennifer Hawkes, an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist who loves helping kids and young adults with developmental disabilities find their unique voice. I specialize in Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC) and get to work with a colorful mix of diagnoses—from autism to sensory integration disorder and everything in between. A highlight in my journey was obtaining my Assistive Technology Practitioner certification through RESNA back in 2017—definitely a proud moment! My academic adventure began in 2003, when I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Long Island University, where I received the Dr. Neil Sheldon Undergraduate Award for Outstanding Achievement. Then, I jumped headfirst into the MGH Institute of Health Professions, earning my Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology in 2005, all while working toward my reading certification. Since then, I've gained a treasure trove of experience across all sorts of educational and clinical settings. My fascination with AAC took off during my time at the Developmental Disabilities Institute in New York, where I got hands-on training creating and using communication devices from low to high-tech. My love for AAC just keeps growing, and I'm always on the lookout to learn more so I can better support the amazing people I work with.
